Lights: Do as I say not as I do

Message from the government: "Everybody please change to fluorescent light bulbs and stop using incandescent light bulbs now. We say NOW. You heard it NOW. Otherwise we'll throw a fit."I have been using fluorescent bulbs for a long time and I am saving energy whereever I can by using recycled materials, recycling my garbage, using a time thermostat, not iding the car engine, commuting by train, using canvas shopping bags, yada yada yada. So my problem is obviously not with being energy efficient

Position right forefinger and thumb on either side of cat's mouth and gently apply pressure to cheeks while holding pill in right hand. As cat opens mouth pop pill into mouth. Allow cat to close mouth and swallow.Retrieve pill from floor and cat from behind sofa. 1963

National Geographic, December 1963My brother is on holiday with his wife and I am watering their plants every weekend. He told me that there were hundreds of copies of National Geographics in a box that the previous owner of his house had left there and I could take them if I am interested. Just what I needed: something to read on the GO train. The copies are from the ninties but there is one from 1963. Today I took it with me in the morning.Wow, is it ever different from today's edition. Here ar

2008 to (not) to do list

I took last year's list and edited it. Here it is: Stop using the elevator at work. It's only 3 storeys (50 stairs). Walk up first thing in the morning and while walking, think about how furtunate I am that I have a good job and I get to do what I like. At lunchtime, walk up and think about how good it is that I get to eat a good lunch every day. In the afternoon, with a coffee in my hand, walk up the stairs and think about how lucky I am that i'm climbing up these bloody stairs for

Xmas 2007

ZoltansPictures.com has been updated...because now I have Internet again (from Cogeco this time).Highlights:I have some time before we go to Rachel's sister. Her name is Liz. We are having for Christmas lunch and dinner at her (Liz's) house. So I decided to write about the holidays. I'm pretty cold and would love to get a tea but Daisy is sleeping right by my feet and I know if I get up she will wake up and I really don't want to wake her up now because she's a little sick from throwing up a huu

All Bubbles On

Bubbles, bubbles, bubbles !!!!After about a month of construction our whirlpool tub is operational!I wanted to ask Rachel's dad to do the wiring but he's a busy man plus he's  done enought favours for us anyways so I decided to give it a try. It wasn't so bad. I opened up the breaker box and looked at how all the other wires are connected and connected the tub wires - it has to have its own circuit.I was a bit afraid that the whole thing will leak, overflow, blow up, etc but it didn't.

You Are Canadian If

If your local Dairy Queen is closed from September through May, you may live in CanadaIf someone in a Home Depot store offers you assistance and they don't work there, you may live in CanadaIf you've worn shorts and a parka at the same time, you may live in Canada. If you've had a lengthy telephone conversation with someone who dialed a wrong number, you may live in Canada. If 'Vacation' means going anywhere south of Brampton for the weekend, you may live in Canada. If you measu

SSSS: Sunday Snow Shoveling Show

The first big snow storm of this year (the biggest since 1999 they say) was on Sunday and it completely made my day.I shoveled snow from 8-9am, had breakfast, shoveled some more then went to IKEA to find 3 cars in the parking lot:)It was definitely not the best day for driving. Every time I left I had to dig the car out of the driveway. The one thing I don't know is who had more fun: me or Daisy? She loooooves snow! She was jumping in deep snow all day and got so tired that after she swalloed a d

Mid-December

IntroWow, it's been a while again. But worry not world, Zoltan's back at blogging again. This time with less pictures and silly topics, I will write about more serious stuff. No, not really, but who knows? I wish, all the time, the I had a laptop on the train so I could write about whatever I'm thinking about because nothing compares to the stuff that I think of on the Go train. It's such a shite ride on the way home that I need to occupy my mind with something else other than staring at the guy

Around Halloween

This morning I noticed a dog two houses down on the left, then the same dog two houses down on the right, then right next to us and before I knew it she was playing with Daisy in our backyard (I let her in from the back)After a while I realized that I have no idea where she came from and how I am going to get rid of her. No tag on the collar. Rachel found out from the neighbour across the street that the dog is called Nunuck and she belongs to the newspaper delivery woman down the street. She ha

Life Sentence,
No Parole

Murderers and rapists get out of jail over time. A chained dog serves a life sentence with no parole only because he is a dog while all he wants is to be with you and give you his unconditional love.

You agree this is wrong, don't you? Then you say "that's too bad", sigh, and move on. Do something about it. Please. Donate to Dogs Deserve Better to help unchain dogs and provide a kind, more loving life for them.

They are unseen. Forgotten. Alone. Forever. On a chain. Dying in the back yard of humans.
