November 16, 2008 TreesJust so you people (well, if anyone reads this blog at all) can't say that all I do is bitch here, here's a happy thought: I was walking Daisy today at Crawford Lake (which is a nice big park) and I saw so many beautiful trees I wanted to hug them all. It was the first snowfall of the year, it was quiet, bright, cold and just beautiful. And to make things even better I read a few nice native Indian thanksgving prayers posted along the paths. The sign described that for the Iroquis Indians Thanksgiving wasn't an annual event, rather it was a way of everyday life. Enough said I think.Read full post » 0 comments November 16, 2008 GO ticketsGO transit wants you to have a good time on their trains. They do everything they can to ensure that the ride on the GO train will be unforgettable and pleasant. That's why they installed on board TVs where the same bloody set of shit keeps repeating for about 6 months now. Same government funded commercials, same sports clips (they always either snowboard or mountain bike) and some City TV news highlights that only make sense with sound, which is of course, available on AM 120 for everyone who carries a radio with them in the morning commute. They also make sure to announce how you can't cross the tracks and what's where at Union Station and this is Mike your customer service ambassador speaking from coach 1456 an on behalf of GO transit - shut the fuck up Mike, just let us have a quiet fucking commute on your miserable overcrowded overpriced trains where nazi ticket collRead full post » 0 comments October 27, 2008 October status reportAlrighty, here's another blog - the first one since January! OK, I was busy doing other stuff. I installed a new HTML editor, which I use for blogging and this makes life a lot easier - it is a true HTML editor with image uploading built in so I no longer have to piss around with uploading images first through FTP, which also means that I can blog from anywhere, not just from computers where an FTP session to the server is set up.Read full post » 0 comments January 26, 2008 Lights: Do as I say not as I doMessage from the government: "Everybody please change to fluorescent light bulbs and stop using incandescent light bulbs now. We say NOW. You heard it NOW. Otherwise we'll throw a fit."I have been using fluorescent bulbs for a long time and I am saving energy whereever I can by using recycled materials, recycling my garbage, using a time thermostat, not iding the car engine, commuting by train, using canvas shopping bags, yada yada yada. So my problem is obviously not with being energy efficient. My problem is with the vast amounts of energy wasted by the government and large corporations (and certain households) in front of our very eyes.Oh, before I continue, why can't we call them curly light bulbs and old school bulbls instead of fluorescent and incandescent - they are not only near impossible to spell it hurts my ears to say them too.Where do I think energy could be saved?Highway liRead full post » 0 comments January 09, 2008 How to give a cat a pillPick up cat and cradle it in the crook of your left arm as if holding a baby. He told me that there were hundreds of copies of National Geographics in a box that the previous owner of his house had left there and I could take them if I am interested. Just what I needed: something to read on the GO train. The copies are from the ninties but there is one from 1963. Today I took it with me in the morning.Wow, is it ever different from today's edition. Here are the differences:Layout of the ads: There are 20 pages of ads in the beginning and 10 pages of ads at the end. There are no ads whatsoever in between. I could have opened the magazine on page 21 and read all the articles without ever encoutering ads. I thought they had invented a more agressive ad campaign by 1963 but I guess not.Pricing: it cost $1 / copy and $8 / annual subscription or $6.5 forRead full post » 0 comments |
